8 days
this is the age of the two Siamese sisters who were separated. A world first.
In a world first, twin girls joined by the liver were separated just eight days after their birth at the Inselspital in Bern. Never has such a delicate operation been performed on such tiny babies. It was Professor Barbara Wildhaber, Head Physician of the Swiss-French academic center of paediatric surgery, based at the HUG, who led this operation, which lasted over five hours and included a team of experts from several paediatric specialties across the two hospitals. An impressive surgical feat. The twins are now doing well.
