An emergency response centre at the CERN

In May 2015, the HUG and CERN opened an emergency response centre on Swiss territory. The result of a collaboration carried out under the auspices of federal and Geneva authorities, it aims to improve safety on the sites of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research.

The new base of paramedic units (SMUR) is managed by the HUG, with an emergency physician and a paramedic on site. It can be requested by calling 144.

In an emergency on one of the CERN sites or in the western part of the canton, the HUG are able to provide a faster medical response. The response time, which was previously about ten minutes, has been reduced to three minutes.
