Modernising our equipment to offer high-performance medicine

HUG has state-of-the-art technical facilities in terms of operating theatres, imaging, biomedical and laboratory equipment.

38370

is the number of items of medical, technical and IT equipment inventoried at HUG.

From the syringe pump to MRI through the monitor or ultrasound scanner, there is a wide variety of different items of equipment. Each year, several million Swiss francs are invested to remain at the cutting edge of medical technology. In 2016, the main items of healthcare equipment replaced were ultrasound scanners, endoscopy carts, monitoring towers and operating microscopes. As far as the pharmacy and laboratories were concerned, the acquisitions related to an insulator for filling and preparing syringes, an analyser and a sequencer.

ultrasonographs

To improve patient care, the stock of ultrasonographs has been renewed in several specialties: anaesthesia, cardiology, rheumatology, angiology, obstetrics, gynaecology and the paediatric emergency department. With these devices, examination is faster and the quality of the images better thanks to 3D and 4D probes.

polysomnography devices

By renewing its medical devices, the brand new sleep medicine center has optimized the diagnosis of certain neurological and respiratory disorders. Six rooms are equipped with polysomnography devices and capnographs to record several variables (respiration rate, cardiac rhythm, electroencephalogram, electromyogram of the arm or leg muscles, etc.) during sleep. Thanks to the wireless technology used, the patient can move around more easily despite these devices.

6 600

radiopharmaceutical products

To meet the needs of new molecular imaging techniques and radioisotope treatments, a high-technology laboratory has been built in the nuclear medicine department. It complies with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards for the preparation of radiopharmaceutical products injectable into humans.

6,6

million analyses

In 2016, HUG carried out precisely 6,605,362 laboratory analyses, 3% of which were for external service providers.
