Whooping cough vaccine

The vaccination for whooping cough, a highly contagious respiratory disease, is recommended as part of children’s routine immunisation. Unfortunately, immunity weakens over time. Which is why a booster is recommended for teenagers and adults.

To increase acceptance of this booster vaccine, a skin patch, without any needles or adjuvant, has been developed. A phase I clinical study began in 2016 at the HUG clinical research center (FR). It consists in assessing the product’s safety and its ability to reactivate immunity against whooping cough.

Initial results are promising.
