More information

The pediatric gastroenterology unit at HUG, established in 1990, was the first of its kind in Switzerland. It brings together pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition services. Developed in parallel with similar initiatives in other hospitals, this unit is now part of a structured national network coordinated through the SSGHNP.

Founded in 1995, the Society’s mission is to promote the specific role of pediatric gastroenterology within both the Swiss and international medical landscapes. Today, the Society brings together around 30 members from university and cantonal hospitals, as well as professionals in private practice.

The creation of the SSGHNP enabled Switzerland to join the group of national societies within the European Society (ESPGHAN) and to provide a coordinated voice within FMH and other federal committees.

The Society’s main objectives include :

  • strengthening a shared national expertise in pediatric gastroenterology
  • supporting ongoing professional education
  • developing clinical recommendations for pediatricians
  • and representing the specialty within national medical and administrative bodies.
  • fostering collaboration between Swiss centers
