Marlieke de Kraker, PhD, is an infectious disease epidemiologist within the Service de prévention et contrôle de l’infection at the Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève (HUG).
Her field of interest includes all aspects of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), including surveillance, clinical impact, development of novel preventive and treatment strategies, and innovative approaches to improve clinical trial efficiency for novel antibiotics. Since 2015, she works at HUG, where she contributes to different projects in the field of AMR. She leads the statistical workstream within the European Clinical Research Alliance on Infectious Diseases (Ecraid, ecraid.eu), and one of the workpackages of PrIMAVeRa [https://www.primavera-amr.eu/]), focused on the impact of monoclonal antibodies and vaccines on the burden of AMR. For BALANCE, a project in collaboration with Oxford university, she supports a prospective, observational study in low-income countries to better understand the burden of AMR in these settings. In addition, she co-leads the international RESERVOIR project aiming to elucidate the role of environmental surveillance of AMR in the hospital settings (https://www.unige.ch/medecine/newsletter/trajectoires/distinctions/une-equipe-unigehug-coordonnera-un-projet-international-sur-les-bacteries-multiresistantes). Finally, she also works for the World Health Organisation as part of the WHO collaborating centre on AMR.
Dr de Kraker received her Master’s degree in epidemiology from the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and her PhD degree from the University Medical Centre Groningen and Netherlands’ National Institute for Public Health and the Environment. She is currently training in Advanced Medical Statistics at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Prior to joining HUG, Dr de Kraker worked for the Netherlands’ Institute for Public Health and the Environment, where she supported the European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Surveillance program.
