Global Health, Drug Policy and Harm Reduction

Who is the Course For?
Master’s students, Ph.D. candidates, and professionals interested in global health, drugs, governance, and human rights. Selected Bachelor’s students may also be considered.

The summer school offers an in-depth exploration of key issues in international drug
policy through lectures, case studies, mock debates, and group work.

Topics that will be covered include among others:
- global health and the international drug control system
- challenges of access to essential medicines
- human rights
- cannabis regulation models
- psychedelics
- global governance scenarios

The course aims to help students understand health and human rights issues related to drug use and policy, with a particular focus on harm reduction throughout. Students will also analyze the international drug control regime's implications and explore present and future solutions for better governance.

At the end of the week, students will make group presentations examining a specific topic of their choice and addressing the major challenges and possibilities for effective drug policies and the roles of stakeholders at global, national and local levels.
