Pain relief

A study conducted by the palliative medicine service aims to assess the interest of using dexmedetomidine (Dex) during painful nursing care.

Within the framework of this research, the efficacy of Dex administered intranasally is compared to that of opiates administered subcutaneously. Treatment with Dex seems of interest due to its good cardiac, respiratory and neuropsychic tolerance, and also because intravenous administration is often impossible in palliative care.

In 2017, this project received support from the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences and two foundations.
