Surgical procedure involving removing all or part of the uterus.
It is total if it includes the body and the cervix of the uterus.
It is called subtotal if the cervix is left in place.
Hysterectomy can be "conservative" or "interannexial" if the ovaries and fallopian tubes are left in place.
It may be performed through the abdomen (midline abdominal incision or Pfannenstiel incision), by laparoscopy (where the uterus is cut into smaller pieces to allow its extraction) or vaginally (where the uterus is extracted through natural channels).
