Accommodating people with disabilities

In order to better accommodate patients with physical or mental disabilities, the HUG has put in place a special system for their care. It reduces waiting times and ensures a smooth and worry-free experience. It also aims to prepare the patient's arrival at the hospital via a dedicated telephone hotline, and a discussion with the carers or helpers of patients with disabilities.

A form about the patient's disability and any specific features provides information to caregivers regarding their lifestyle and method of communication. In addition, a special consulting doctor and nurse are tasked with monitoring the care of all patients with disabilities. Specific treatment protocols have been developed, incorporating pain assessment scales. And finally, 140 ER and GIM staff have received special training.
