Change your mind in less than 5 minutes

Engaging in something else and distracting yourself can be helpful when emotions are running high. Here are some suggestions for taking your mind off things if you have a few minutes to spare:

  • Change rooms / go get something in the next room
  • Open the window and breathe in the fresh air
  • Putting water on one’s face
  • Drink a glass of water
  • Close your eyes and take deep breaths (link to abdominal breathing)
  • Eating a fruit
  • Listening to a song you like
  • Write a message to a friend or loved one
  • Applying perfume or smelling the scent of something fragrant
  • Massaging the head, neck, or shoulders
  • Makeup
  • Looking at photos
