Unlike basic research (performed in laboratories on tissues and animals), the research conducted by HUG is patient-oriented and is referred to as clinical research. This is performed with human volunteers. The purpose of these clinical studies is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a method of diagnosis or treatment and to improve doctors' knowledge of a disease or health discipline.
