Medical simulation

The medical simulation program (FR) (SIMULHUG) aims, via teaching and continuing education, to improve the skills of health professionals and the performance of interdisciplinary teams, in order to improve care quality and patient safety.

This program has a single platform in French-speaking Switzerland. Inspired by simulation techniques used in the aerospace industry, it has a sophisticated simulation mannequin within a clinical environment that can be adjusted according to need (e.g. operating room, emergency room, intensive care unit, patient room).

Teaching is adapted to the participants' level of knowledge, and aims to improve levels of experience and technical skills, as well as human factors such as communication, leadership and teamwork. Participants are exposed to critical medical situations, which they must manage.

This program is the outcome of joint work involving HUG's Anesthesiology Division and the Medical Education Research and Development Unit (FR) at the University of Geneva Faculty of Medicine.

SimulHUG Pediatric Section

SimulHUG also has an independent pediatric section, which was created by the Child and Adolescent Department, with the support of the HUG Private Foundation (FR) and the Kiwanis Foundation (DE).

A key feature of SimulHUG's pediatric section is that it is fully mobile, and simulations can therefore be carried out in situ, in other words inside the facilities of the various units in the Department of Women-Children-Teenagers. They use high-fidelity baby and child mannequins. This mobility and in situ training is a first for Europe.
