Using data to improve quality of care and patient outcomes

-
“Without data, you are just another person with an opinion” – a famous quote by Edward Deming – is still very true today.
But what data do we need to assess whether there is a problem with the quality of safety of care, or to drive quality improvement?
Hospitals often collect multiple quality indicators but do these help to improve care?

This talk will highlight how to select a set of quality measures and design a QI initiative to optimize chances that the intervention will be effective to improve patient outcomes, but also that more is needed than data alone – interventions need to be tailored to the needs and skills of clinicians to improve care and ensure these can be sustained.
