Gallbladder polyps are often found incidentally during gallbladder examination, especially when performing a gallbladder ultrasound (FR).
Surgery or follow-up for gallbladder polyps
If the polyps are painless and small (<10 mm), ultrasound follow-up is usually recommended every 6 to 12 months.
The cholecystectomy is indicated if the polyps:
- cause pain
- are associated with gallbladder stones or other bile duct conditions
- are larger than 10mm.
