Putting off tasks until tomorrow, doing something else... we may sometimes put off tasks we had planned to do. While it is perfectly acceptable to take time to rest when we are tired, we can also be more energetic when we feel good. Accomplishing the tasks and goals we set for ourselves can improve our self-esteem and motivation on a daily basis.
Why do we put off tasks?
Among the many reasons, there is fatigue, sadness, stress or the feeling that there is not enough time to complete the activity we had planned.
It is important to ask yourself several questions. Do I have a good reason for putting off the planned task (such as staying in bed because of the flu)? Can it be done in several parts if I don’t have enough time to finish it?
Starting today, here and now
Part of the difficulty with procrastination is the tendency to put off the decision to start the task at hand.
It can be helpful to schedule a time to do it, such as setting a specific day and time to, for example, sort a pile of paper. At the scheduled time, simply start the planned activity, without even knowing how far you will get (getting a little bit done is better than not doing anything at all). Focus and don’t let other tasks distract you from your goal.
There’s an activity I’ve been wanting to do for a long time,
but I don’t know where to start!
Projects are a great way to enrich your life and boost your self-confidence. However, they must be achievable.
For long-term projects (such as improving your physical condition), you can try breaking the activity into smaller parts to focus on more achievable goals.
Why not dedicate 20 minutes a day to this activity that you have been interested in for a long time? After a few days or weeks, you may be surprised at how far you have come!
