The Centre for Emerging Viral Diseases is engaged in an active collaboration with "Médecins Sans Frontières" (Doctors Without Borders) on improving our ability to detect and fight hepatitis E epidemics. This collaboration has largely focused on field work in South Sudan, conducted in collaboration with the South Sudan Ministry of Health where we aim to estimate the effectiveness and protection of Hepatitis E vaccine during the first ever deployment of the vaccine in an outbreak. In addition, we are working to characterize the field performance of rapid tests for hepatitis E and improve our understanding the epidemiology through both serologic and molecular investigations.
