Philippe CompagnonProfessor Philippe Compagnon is Consultant surgeon for the Division of Digestive Surgery and for the Division of Transplantation. He studied medicine at the Claude Bernard University in Lyon (France), before completing his surgical internship at Strasbourg University Hospitals (France), where he obtained his titale of Doctorain medicine (MD) in 1997. 

Between 2002 and 2006, he completed his clinical practice at the Rennes University Hospital (France), where he acquired solid experience in hepato-biliary surgery and transplantation. After a 2-year research fellowship in the organ conservation laboratory of the University of Wisconsin (Madison, USA), he obtained his doctorate in biology and health sciences (PhD). He was then nominated Consultant surgeon at the University Hospital of Rennes (France) for 6 years before joining in 2012 the Public Assistance - Paris Hospitals (AP-HP, CHU Henri Mondor, France), where he was nominated Lecturer - Hospital Practitioner (MCU-PH). He was promoted University Professor in 2015.

His clinical activity is divided between liver transplantation and hepato-biliary surgery. Academically, his activity revolves around teaching and research, both clinical and experimental, focusing on methods to reduce ischemia-perfusion lesions in liver transplantation. He is working on the development of a new hypothermic liver transplant perfusion machine.

Arrived at the University Hospitals of Geneva in December 2017 as Visiting Professor, he was appointed Associate Professor in the Division of Transplantation in December 2019.
