The HUG has a unique network of underground passageways on its main site, stretching over 13 km between the various buildings.

The network also facilitates numerous hospital activities such as the transport of patients, the distribution of meals, the delivery of linen, the transfer of waste and merchandise, postal deliveries and staff movements. In 2024, almost 140 electric vehicles and machines were used for essential hospital transport activities via this network. Thanks to this internal logistics system powered by electric vehicles many short-distance journeys by vans and by trucks between hospital buildings are avoided.

With a view to reducing noise, pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as improving driver comfort, in 2024 the HUG also acquired six electric trucks (four 7.5-tonne and two 16-tonne) for internal logistics. The first four trucks and the recharging facilities were financially supported by the Private Foundation of the HUG. These six new vehicles represent 50% of the hospital's fleet of heavy-duty vans.

Thanks to internal logistics using electric vehicles, 58% of the HUG fleet is electric in 2024.
