Research

Vaccinology is the science that encompasses all aspects related to the prevention of diseases by vaccination. Its aim is to meet the prevention needs of each individual in an individualized manner, with personalized approaches that allow the degree of protection to be identified, the necessary vaccination strategies to be defined and the potential risks of adverse reactions to be reduced.

Faculty of Medicine

In 2000, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva created the first chair of vaccinology in Europe. Its Vaccination Center, directed by Professor Claire-Anne Siegrist, is the privileged partner of a major European program (the ADITEC project, “Advanced Immunization Technologies”), which brings together 42 research partners in 13 countries. This research project is designed to develop a new generation of vaccines that are more effective and just as safe in terms of controlling the risk of side effects. The Geneva Vaccination Center has obtained funding of more than one million euros and is a member of the committee that is overseeing the scientific management of the project.

By creating their own vaccination center, the HUG are making the unique experience acquired by their research doctors available to everyone – and confirming their position as leaders in Switzerland. The center’s missions concern everything related to vaccinology, at all ages of life and in all contexts.
