The Virology Laboratory performs diagnostic tests for the entire Geneva University Hospitals These activities include viral culture, molecular tests and infectious serology. More than 120,000 analyses are carried out each year.
The laboratory is divided into two parts that are separated geographically (LV1 and LV2), the two are located at the main site of the Geneva University Hospitals.The diagnostic tests provided are aimed to respond to the needs of a University Reference Center treating complex pathologies as well as transferred patients.
The laboratory is also the headquarters for National Reference Centers for influenza and emerging viruses. It therefore offers comprehensive services adapted to these issues in an appropriate biosecure environment. Monitoring the flu and the diagnosis of potential cases of avian flu or hemorrhagic fevers is the responsibility of these centers.
The laboratory also integrates research groups whose areas of expertise are respiratory viruses, rhinovirus and HIV.
