HUG ranks among the top 20 hospitals in the world according to Newsweek's World's Best Hospitals ranking for 2026. The 34-place rise in one year to 19th worldwide confirms the institution's commitment to quality and safety of care.

At the European level, the HUG ranks 8th.

International recognition based on demanding criteria

Published by the American magazine Newsweek in partnership with the Statista data institute, the ranking assesses more than 2,500 hospitals from 32 countries.

The analysis is based on a methodology that integrates:

  • the recommendations of thousands of healthcare professionals surveyed worldwide
  • indicators relating to the quality and safety of care
  • Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), in other words: patient-reported experience.

This approach makes it possible to measure not only clinical reputation but also the reported impact of care provision on patients' quality of life.

A dynamic of steady progress

This entry into the world's top-20 reflects a trajectory of steady progress - as observed in recent years through the Newsweek rankings of specialized hospitals (Best Specialized Hospitals)and of the best hospitals in terms of digital innovation (Best Smart Hospitals). Three years after ranking among the world's top 100 establishments, this latest ranking confirms the trajectory embarked upon and HUG's ambition to maintain a level of excellence that meets the highest international standards.
