You will undergo surgery at the HUG.

Before your operation

Prior to your admission to the HUG, you will go to the anesthesia consultation and the pre-surgical consultation. During these consultations, all final arrangements and verifications related to the surgery will be made.

Your hospitalization

On the day of your appointment, you will be welcomed by the Hospitalization Unit nursing team, who will set you up in your room. If this is an elective surgery (scheduled operation), you will arrive in the morning according to the schedule confirmed by telephone by the nursing team the evening before.

You will then see a doctor from the surgical team who will confirm your arrival in the unit and that everything is in order for the surgery.

Your operation

When it is time for the operation, you will be brought to the operating room. The person taking you will verify your identity with your nurse and take you to the operating room assigned to you. The anesthesiologist will check your identity again and proceed with your anesthesia.

After confirming your identity and the surgical procedure to be performed, your surgeon will proceed with the scheduled operation.

After the procedure

Once the surgery is completed, you will be transferred to the recovery room. You will be under the supervision of a specialized medical team that will monitor you during the first moments following the operation. Some surgeries require a longer monitoring time. In this case, you will stay in intensive care or intermediate care.

Pain will be effectively controlled with appropriate treatment by the team in charge.

As soon as your condition permits, you will be brought back to your room in the Hospitalization Unit where your healthcare team will take care of you.

Your discharge

Your return home will be determined based on when your health status will allow it. The medical care team will schedule the necessary appointments for your post-operative consultation.
If necessary, and if medically indicated, continuation of treatment will be arranged at a rehabilitation center.

A doctor from the surgical team is present 24 hours a day at the establishment and available if needed.
