Mission of the eHealth and Telemedicine Division
The mission of the eHealth and Telemedicine Division is to promote the expertise, excellence and entrepreneurial spirit of HUG beyond the usual geographical and institutional boundaries, using information and communication technologies. Its work is divided into two broad areas: eHealth and telemedicine.
eHealth aims to bring together the various health and care parties involved with a patient in order to improve continuity, quality and efficiency of care. This is done locally, via the myHUG portal, and regionally in medical IT community networks such as the MonDossierMedical.ch project. There are also projects on a larger scale, such as the pan-European EXPAND project, and also projects that are targeted to specific populations, such as the KidsETransplant project for children and adolescents who have had liver transplants.
Telemedicine consists of facilitating diagnosis, treatment and care remotely, using communications tools such as video conferencing and the Internet. HUG is currently developing a second medical opinion service, which will be made available in particular to an international clientele. In addition, the RAFT and Altiplano projects provide support to health professionals in developing countries, using telemedicine and remote learning techniques. The division has also been recognized as a World Health Organization Collaborating Center for this work.
