Mission of the Lung Cancer Center

The Lung Cancer Center offers the best diagnostic and therapeutic strategy and coordinates the treatment for people affected by lung cancer.

Lung cancer is a complex disease which requires the expertise of several different medical specialisms which are based in different divisions within the hospital. This multidisciplinary approach is essential for the provision of optimum care. The Center gives you access to its range of expertise so it can develop a treatment strategy personalized to you based on the characteristics of the tumor and your general state of health.

It brings together specialists from the divisions of Thoracic Surgery, Nuclear Medicine, Oncology, Pathology, Pneumology, Radiology and Radio-Oncology. An experienced specialist from each medical-surgical discipline concerned will ensure your care from the point of diagnosis to rehabilitation.

The Lung Cancer Center brings together specialists from each division in the weekly tumor board meeting. This group examines your clinical situation in order to define a screening strategy, to establish or confirm a diagnosis and to propose the most appropriate treatment.

The Lung Cancer Center offers you the opportunity, depending on your situation, to participate in medical research studies. These studies open up access to innovative treatments which are not available on the market. They constitute genuine treatment opportunities when the cancer is refractory to usual treatments.

On the request of your doctor the Lung Cancer Center may intervene to provide you with a second opinion. In such a case, the expert group at the Center will examine your situation and submit its treatment proposals to your doctor so he/she can discuss them with you.
