Neurosciences Researcher

Charles Quairiaux is responsible for fundamental research projects supported by the NeuroCentre. His laboratory, integrated into the Department of fundamental neurosciences at the Faculty of Medicine, focuses mainly on the dysfunctional mechanisms of brain networks involved in pathologies such as epilepsy.

The main objective of his research is to better understand how epileptic networks form and strengthen, as well as their integration within larger brain networks that contribute to the genesis of epileptic seizures. Ultimately, an approach that considers the activity of brain networks as a whole, rather than just the epileptic focus, could improve seizure prediction in patients and optimize neuromodulation strategies based on the implantation of stimulation electrodes.

Charles Quairiaux is also responsible for teaching neuroscience and neuroanatomy at the Faculty of Medicine. He notably supervises projects aimed at developing multimodal 3D models of the human brain, combining medical imaging and neuroanatomical photogrammetry. This work aims to improve the practical learning of brain anatomy for students and healthcare professionals.
