A unique consultation for brain and mental health

Une consultation inédite pour la santé cérébrale et mentale

People suffering from psychiatric illnesses and those who have suffered a head injury sometimes develop similar symptoms. A multidisciplinary consultation, located at the Biotech Campus, now provides care for them.

After a head injury, some people develop persistent symptoms: intense fatigue, decreased attention, sleep disturbances, loss of motivation, and even anxiety and depression. These symptoms are also often observed in those suffering from psychiatric illnesses, such as schizophrenia. Based on this observation, the Departments of Psychiatry and Clinical Neuroscience, supported by the HUG NeuroCentre, joined forces to create a specialized, multidisciplinary consultation center. It opened at the end of 2024 at the Biotech Campus in Geneva.

Bringing clinical neuroscience and psychiatry together

“This space aims to bring together clinical neuroscience and psychiatry, by integrating scientific advances into daily care. It also offers patients the opportunity to participate in clinical studies conducted on campus and focusing on new therapeutic approaches. The goal is to improve care through the use of latest-generation diagnostic tools and the development of innovative treatments,” explains Dr. Matthias Kirschner, assistant physician in the Department of Psychiatry.

Multidisciplinary approach

Dr. Aria Nouri, head of the Neurosurgery Division, explains: “Every year, thousands of people present to the emergency room due to head trauma. Those who develop persistent symptoms are sometimes lost and do not know who to turn to. At Campus Biotech, we can perform a thorough neuropsychiatric assessment and offer a multidisciplinary approach.”
