Who are we ?

«WE MUST REPLACE SOLITARY ACHIEVEMENT WITH COLLECTIVE SUCCESS»  Albert Jacquard

"It is in this spirit that we care for children and we try to meet the many challenges day!” Pre Barbara Wildhaber & Pr Valérie McLin, the two managers of the Center.

Parents, pediatricians, coordinators, doctors, nurses, donors and many internal and external partners: every  link in the chain is essential to take care of children attending the Center.  It is all together, hand in hand, that we can heal and continue to be the center of reference that we are. On behalf of the children, we would like to warmly thank you all.

Swiss reference center

Geneva University Hospital (Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève (HUG)) and its Children’s Hospital (FR) are the headquarters of the National Center and provide care for children with liver disease. Whether it involves performing a diagnosis or finding the best treatment, we are here to help you with the care of your child.

Today, more than 500 families from all over Switzerland and abroad are monitored at the Center and come to get treatment for their liver disease.

The Swiss Pediatric Liver Center is the only center in Switzerland accredited in Highly Specialized Medicine (HSM) for pediatric liver transplantation as well as for hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery in children.

From 1989 to 2025, 222 children received a new liver. Their 90.6% survival rate is one of the highest in Europe.

Our various collaborations

We are committed to working closely with others involved in your child's care: your pediatrician, your pediatric gastroenterologist, the regional referral center - and you.

Thanks to this collaboration, we are able to offer you and your child state-of-the-art, professional and attentive care.
