Attending Physician
Dr. Valérie McLin
Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Pediatric Nutrition is a very important specialty in Pediatrics because it relates to around a quarter of children's diseases.
Pediatric Gastroenterology has three components:
Pediatric gastroenterology covers all illnesses of the child’s digestive tract and the pancreas. It may involve illnesses caused by anatomical or genetic anomalies or with an allergic, inflammatory or auto-immune origin. Very often these are rare illnesses which require specific and multidisciplinary treatment and for which the unit has several expert doctors. These rare illnesses are reported on the Orphanet portal.
Pediatric nutrition involves a normal diet from a new-born to a healthy adolescent, but also specific treatment for the nutritional consequences of a child’s cardiac, neurological, oncological or respiratory illnesses. It is therefore fully integrated into the complete treatment of the hospitalised patient or outpatient. It may therefore be proposed by the pediatrician or the specialist in charge of the chronic illness of the child. It has recourse to a multidisciplinary team (nutritionist doctor, nurse, dietician, pediatric radiologist, speech therapist, etc.).
