My feet and hands are swollen, what should I do?
Edema of the hands and feet are common in the third trimester of pregnancy. They are more likely to occur with prolonged standing or heat. But beware, if they increase suddenly, if they are accompanied by headaches, "floaters" in front of the eyes, ringing in the ears, nausea, vomiting, irritability and/or pain in the upper part of the stomach, consult your physician quickly as this could indicate a pregnancy-related disease, pre-eclampsia.
Practical advice:
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a virus that causes infections that often pass unnoticed.
A cytomegalovirus infection in pregnant women can cause damage to the fetus.
This is the most common congenital fetal infection in industrialized countries.
In early pregnancy the physician will perform a blood test to check whether or not you have already had the virus.
In non-immunized pregnant women, the risk of infection is increased by the fact of having a toddler, working at a daycare center or with the elderly and/or immunosuppressed.
There are no contraindications up to an altitude of around 2,500 meters/7,500 feet.
However, avoid sudden altitude changes.
I have had a fall or I was in a traffic accident, what should I do?
After a fall or accident, consult a physician quickly. The baby is normally well protected in its natural environment, but a check-up is necessary.
Under certain special circumstances, it will be necessary to hospitalize you for 24 hours to monitor you.
