Wound care

Mission

Mission of the Wound Care Group

The HUG “wound healing" group was formed following a practical assessment of the prevalence of bedsores at the institution.

Quick preventive action has helped to reduce their impact, demonstrate the benefit of continuing education among care providers and maintain the resources deemed to be a priority.

Care providers and doctors from surgical and medical disciplines in the divisions most concerned are increasingly interested in the management of all chronic wounds, including diabetic wounds, ulcers and oncological wounds.

Wounds are the reason for many consultations and hospitalizations, and are also the consequence of prolonged hospital stays. It is a significant condition in terms of health costs.

The main objectives are simplification, standardization and optimization of care practices and of the use of existing products.

Group members work in collaboration with the pharmacy, the hospital divisons, office-based care providers and of course the patient.

Training for care providers and the patient is an objective that occupies a large part of the group's activity and helps to encourage prevention.

  • Care providers are trained via courses and workshops on various topics, established according to the needs of the departments.  An article summarizing a study conducted over several years to discover the impact of hematoma on individuals and various oral and poster presentations have continued to be published in 2012: "Une collaboration institutionnelle pour une démarche de soins innovante (FR)" - M-H. Tarteaut, N. Dalloux, A. Cheretakis, L. Toutous-Trellu - ISC, IRUS, HUG Dermatologist and Plastic Surgeon - and see publications.

  • There is also scientific interest since natural healing processes offer interesting fields of research.

Heartburn

I have heartburn and acidity, what should I do?

Heartburn or acidity is due to a hormone (progesterone) that relaxes the opening of the stomach, allowing the gastric juices to go back up. In addition, the growth of the uterus pushes on the stomach, thus encouraging gastric acid reflux.
