I have heartburn and acidity, what should I do?
Heartburn or acidity is due to a hormone (progesterone) that relaxes the opening of the stomach, allowing the gastric juices to go back up. In addition, the growth of the uterus pushes on the stomach, thus encouraging gastric acid reflux.
Practical advice:
- Avoid lying down after a meal, try to stay seated
- Avoid alcohol, coffee, soft drinks, spices, vinegar, chocolate, rich sauces
- Try to take small, divided meals
- Your physician may prescribe medication for your acidity if necessary
