The HUG have developed a program to promote equality and inclusion as well as to combat all forms of discrimination, sexism and violence.

In 2021 the HUG added a fifth value, Equality and inclusion (FR), to their relational values of trust, respect, team spirit and appreciation. This new value aims to reinforce the culture of zero tolerance of violence and discrimination, in particular where gender is concerned. It also promotes diversity and inclusion by considering differences in gender or sexual orientation, origin, belief or social situation as an asset for the HUG.

In order to promote this new relational value at all levels of the institution, the HUG have created the position of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Officer and launched a program of the same name as part of the Vision 20+5 strategic plan (FR). This program aims to strengthen the anti-discrimination mechanism and promote an inclusive and fair workplace environment within the HUG. It also puts in place various measures and actions to be taken, in order to guarantee professional and salary equality between men and women, support women's professional careers and work towards equality and inclusion of LGBTI persons. In 2022 the HUG is taking the necessary steps to qualify for the Swiss LGBTI label.

As part of this program, since 2022, the half-day welcome session for all new employees includes a ten-minute presentation focused on the relational value of "Equality and Inclusion". A team discussion guide on the prevention of harassment and discrimination is also provided to managers to reinforce respectful behavior in their teams.
